History now more than minding your P's and Q's ...

... Presidents and Queens, that is! In this second decade of the twentyfirst century we are most likely to be concerned about the valuable historical data that we have accumulated about both our business lives and our personal lives. Yes, whether you realise it or not, you own a lot of data - e-mails, names and addresses, bookkeeping and financial data not to mention the operational data (text, numbers & pictures) relating to your business ... So, in a very real sense, you are constantly writing (and re-writing) your very own history book. There's nothing sinister (like in George Orwell's 1984) in the re-writing part - it will mainly be concerned with names and addresses.

Contributor's Note
Once you've admitted to having data, you'll want to know if there are better ways you can use that data (data retrieval and reporting). A database (which is what you've got!) is only as good as its reporting system and the care taken to maintain its data integrity (clean, consistent and valid). Without such underlying data integrity your retrieval and reporting may be worse than useless and without them why bother to record all your historical data? All these topics will be covered in later Intels.
